Santa Ana PD Gary Couso

Orange SO Gabe Rivera

Gabe Rivera is a 15-year veteran of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. His work assignments have included, Custody Operations, Patrol Operations, Training Division – Firearms Training Unit, and Special Enforcement Bureau – SWAT. He has been a member of the OCSD SWAT Team for 11 years and is currently assigned as the Team Leader of Green Team. His job functions on the team have included, Team Leader (TL), Assistant Team Leader (ATL), Sniper, and Joint Hazardous Assessment Team (JHAT). Deputy Rivera is one of the primary instructors for the team in firearms and tactics related topics for Basic SWAT School as well as advanced officer training courses. He is currently assigned to the Tactical Apprehension Team (TAT) which is the full-time element of the SWAT team and handles day to day operations.

Santa Ana PD Garry Couso

Garry Couso serves with the Santa Ana Police Department as the Major Enforcement Training Sergeant. Sergeant Couso has 25 years of law enforcement experience, previously serving with the City of Huntington Park. He has worked in many positions for the Santa Ana PD, including Directed Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Academy Tactical Officer, Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Training Manager, SWAT Team Operator, and now as a SWAT Team Leader.
Sergeant Couso earned Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Organizational Management and has recently completed his final course with the University of San Diego Master’s in Law Enforcement Public Safety Leadership Program.
Sergeant Couso loves teaching and mentoring, which began early in his career when he was assigned to the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy as an Academy Tactical Officer. From there, he went on to the Field Training Officer and Patrol Corporal position, where he continued to teach and train others. He’s honored and humbled to be one of the CATO Region 11 representatives.
